A Kazakh delegation and German companies discussed ways to intensify their cooperation, including projects to produce green hydrogen in Kazakhstan

A delegation of the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan headed by the Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Roman Sklyar (“Kazakh delegation”) and representatives of German companies, including Mr. Wolfgang Kropp, CEO of SVEVIND group (“SVEVIND”), met on October 26th at the head office of Schaeffler AG in Herzogenaurach, Germany. The Kazakh delegation included the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Almas Aidarov, the Vice Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry Mr. Askhat Orazbek, the Vice Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development Mr. Marat Karabayev, the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Germany Mr. Dauren Karipov, as well as the leadership of “Kazakh Invest” National Company JSC. The meeting was co-organised by the Eastern Committee of the German Economy.

During the visit, discussions were held with the heads of large German companies such as Schaeffler AG, J.A. Woll Handels GmbH, EOS GmbH, Gigaset AG, among others, regarding the implementation of potential cooperation and investment projects in the fields of information and communication technology, trade, energy, mechanical engineering, etc.

The meeting participants were especially interested in the company SVEVIND and its outstanding projects to produce green hydrogen in Kazakhstan. At separate talks with the Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Roman Sklyar, special attention was paid to state support from the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the framework of the project.

In September 2021, at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the CEO of SVEVIND, Mr. Wolfgang Kropp, informed the President, Mr. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, about the prospects of the implementation of investment projects in green hydrogen in the Republic of Kazakhstan. Mr. Wolfgang Kropp also met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Askar Mamin, during a meeting in Nur-Sultan with other CEOs of German companies and the Eastern Committee of the German Economy in September 2021. On the 6th and 7th of October this year, during the trip of a Kazakh delegation to Sweden headed by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Almas Aidarov, the delegation visited the largest onshore wind farm in Europe “MARKBYGDEN 1101” and the roadmap for the implementation of the project to produce green hydrogen was signed.

SVEVIND has been developing and realising extra-large scale onshore wind power projects in Scandinavia since 1998. The “Markbygden 1101” cluster of connected wind farms in Northern Sweden, west of the city of Piteå, is the largest wind farm in Europe, having already reached the 1 GW milestone of operational wind turbines earlier this year while an additional 1.5 GW of wind turbines are under construction. In June 2021, SVEVIND signed a memorandum of understanding with Kazakh Invest National Company JSC confirming its support for SVEVIND’s project pipeline of 30 GW of green hydrogen projects in Kazakhstan. In July 2021, SVEVIND signed a memorandum of understanding with the Akimat of the Mangystau region regarding the cooperation between the Akimat and the company to support SVEVIND’s project pipeline of 20 GW of green hydrogen projects in the Mangystau region in Western Kazakhstan.
