Basic Principles of Project Implementation between the Government of Kazakhstan and SVEVIND group
On November 26th, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, as well as the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Roman Sklyar, met with Mr. Wolfgang Kropp, CEO of the SVEVIND group of companies (“SVEVIND”) in Brussels during a visit of the representatives of Kazakhstan to the Kingdom of Belgium and the European Union.
Mr. Sklyar, on behalf of the Kazakh government, and Mr. Kropp signed the “Framework Agreement on the Basic Principles of Project Implementation”, outlining the principles of the implementation of SVEVIND`s green hydrogen projects in the Mangystau region, Western Kazakhstan, to deliver green hydrogen from 2030. SVEVIND´s green hydrogen projects will support the action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, just recently reaffirmed at the COP26 conference in Glasgow.
Mr. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev highly appreciated the progress in the work on the investment projects launched earlier and noted their strategic importance for Kazakhstan. The President assured that he would personally monitor the implementation of the company’s projects in our country. At the same time, he pointed to the need to comply with all environmental standards and recommendations.
Mr. Wolfgang Kropp said, “SVEVIND is very proud to support the global energy transition and the efforts towards decarbonisation of the societies – just recently reaffirmed by the nations at COP26 – by supply Kazakhstan and Eurasia with green, sustainable energy and products, ‘powered by nature’. The green hydrogen facilities will offer Kazakhstan the opportunity to become one of the global leaders of renewable energy and green hydrogen. We are very excited to take this next step in the project development, and we are thankful for the outstanding support of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kazakh government.”
Since 2019, SVEVIND is planning projects to produce green hydrogen and other green energy carriers in the Republic of Kazakhstan for domestic use and export to Eurasian markets. In particular, it is planned to implement a lighthouse project to operate wind and solar power plants of about 30 GW with the subsequent utilisation for the production of approx. 2 million tons per year of green hydrogen in the Mangystau region in the first step.
In June 2021, SVEVIND signed a memorandum of understanding with Kazakh Invest National Company JSC confirming its support for SVEVIND’s overall Kazakh project pipeline of 30 GW of green hydrogen projects in Kazakhstan fed by about 45 GW of renewable energy capacity. In July 2021, SVEVIND signed a memorandum of understanding with the county administration of the Mangystau region to support SVEVIND’s project pipeline of 20 GW of green hydrogen projects in the Mangystau region in Western Kazakhstan. On October 8th, the Kazakh government and SVEVIND signed the “Roadmap” to develop and implement the beforementioned green hydrogen projects in the Mangystau region.
In September 2021, at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the CEO of SVEVIND, Mr. Wolfgang Kropp, informed the President, Mr. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, about the prospects of the implementation of investment projects in green hydrogen in the Republic of Kazakhstan. Mr. Wolfgang Kropp also met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Askar Mamin, during a meeting with other CEOs of German companies and the Eastern Committee of the German Economy in September 2021.
