Hyrasia One progresses: Update Week in Astana

13. November 2023

Astana | A visit to the President at Akorda, talking with TV Station Khabar24, the Ministry of Industry and Construction, the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Ecology – three days of the past week were spent by CEO Wolfgang Kropp, CBDO Dr. René Pforte and Investment Director Ainur Tumysheva to visit important institutions and involved stakeholders to inform them about the current status of developments relating to our Hyrasia One project.

Day 1

Since Hyrasia One is, as President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev describes it, a flagship project for Kazakhstan with strategic importance for achieving the country’s carbon neutrality goals, the interest of the head of state, the ministers and the media was of course high. The progress of the pre-FEED phase, the planning of the environmental and social impact assessments, the latest developments in the project schedule and the initial infrastructural specifications brought President Tokayev and other representatives of the government staff up to date. The expectations are very high as is the trust in our team. It is not just some random project in the steppe of Mangystau, it is an elementary part of the future vision for the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Day 2

While the people behind the project development spoke with Industry Minister Kanat Sharlapaev on the following day about the technical planning work of the pre-FEED phase and the possibilities of domestic plant construction and the opportunities for the use of green hydrogen in Kazakhstan, the focus during the talks with Education Minister Sayasat Nurbek was a different one. The training of specialists in the country and on international research cooperation in the field of green hydrogen were particularly relevant for both sides.

“Both discussions were very important and revealed many new approaches and cooperation possibilities. However, the fact that all participants declared their continued support for Hyrasia One is of utmost importance to us,” said CEO Wolfgang Kropp with satisfaction.

Day 3

“Green in this project should not only be hydrogen, but also our presence in the region”, promised Dr. René Pforte, Chief Business Development Director of SVEVIND Energy Group while talking with Mansur Oshurbaev, Vice-Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The project development aims at the most careful attitude to nature, historical properties and specially protected objects of Mangystau region. Hyrasia One is already actively working together with an independent engineering company Fichtner to conduct two-year studies of the project’s Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA). These include studies of marine and land-based flora and fauna. Bird migratory and nesting routes, mammal movements and more will also be studied.

“We are very pleased with the way the discussions have gone and with the ideas and initiatives that have come out of them,” is how Ainur Tumysheva, Investment Director of Hyrasia One, assesses the talks in Astana. She continued: “The company is on the right track and has the right partners and supporters to reach financial close in 2026.”
